Alex C. Michalos is Professor Emeritus in Political Science from the University of Northern British Columbia, Canada. He has a PhD in philosophy from the University of Chicago; he founded and edited Social Indicators Research from 1973 to 2013; won the Secretary of State’s Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Research in Canadian Studies (1984) for writing his five-volume North American Social Report; and edited the 12-volume Encyclopedia of Quality of Life and Well-Being Research (2014). He is a Member of the Order of Canada and received the Gold Medal for Achievement in Research (2004) from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (the Council’s highest honor).
